Oleksandra Taranova is an Ed.M. candidate in Learning Design, Innovation, and Technology at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is Ukrainian and has lived in seven countries across four continents. She loves exploring cultures, and she takes Lev Vygotsky's idea that "through others we become ourselves" as a description of what those years actually did: every place she lived gave her a new way of seeing, and the international mindset she carries into learning environments came from the people in them. She is interested in building tools and policies that put mental health at the center of learning design. Her work is rooted in Ukraine, where students are learning under severe conditions, and she works on finding ways for education to account for that. She has worked as an operations and project manager for a Ukrainian nonprofit and for a global community of innovators in postsecondary education. Outside of school, you will find her organizing dinners and events that build community and get people past superficial conversation.
